New School Construction

At the October 11, 2010 Board meeting, the Brea Olinda Unified School District (BOUSD) Board of Education approved the first phase of construction for a new elementary school on the property the District owns on Birch Street adjacent to the City of Brea’s Sports Park.  At the November 15, 2010 Board meeting, the Board approved the closing of the existing Olinda Elementary School and the naming of the new school as the Olinda Elementary School.

In the first phase of construction, the District will build sixteen regular classrooms, three kindergarten classrooms, the office and library/media center building, lunch shelter area and all fields, play areas and parking lots.  The new campus will also use four temporary classrooms relocated from the high school to create a temporary kitchen/food service facility and a temporary multi-purpose room. When this phase is complete, the new school will potentially house over 450 students.

When construction began in October 2010, the District had a very aggressive construction timeline.  With the unusually high amount of rainfall experienced in the fall of 2010 and winter of 2011, construction has been delayed and the new Olinda Elementary School is now currently scheduled for completion in December 2011, with student occupancy in January of 2012.
