At the July 22, 2013 Board of Education meeting, the Board selected Nicole Colon to fill the vacancy on the Board of Education created by the resignation of Teresa Hampson.  According to Board Policy and State Education Code regulations, she will now serve the BOUSD community as a Board member for the remainder of Hampson’s term, which expires December, 2014.  Mrs. Colon's first official meeting as a new Board member will be at the August 26, 2013 regular meeting.

Disposition of Exisiting Olinda Elementary School Site


On Monday, November 7, 2011, a Public Hearing was held at 7:30 PM in the Brea Civic and Cultural Center, Community Rooms A & B. The purpose of the Public Hearing was to give the community an opportunity to comment on the disposition of the existing Olinda Elementary School facility located at 109 Lilac Lane, Brea. SchoolMessenger Notification Service

The Brea Olinda Unified School District currently uses the SchoolMessenger Notification System to send important announcements to parents and staff members on matters such as attendance, general interest activities and campus and district emergencies.  SchoolMessenger offers you the ability to determine how you would like to receive the different types of messages.  If you would like to receive messages in a different manner (different phone number, additional phone number, email, text, etc.) please call Shannon Ames (714) 990-7533 at the District Office to make those changes.  Click here for more information.

Intent to Sell Surplus Property (Brea CorporatePlace)

At the December 9, 2013 Board meeting, the Board of Education adopted Resolution #13-46 declaring its intention to sell surplus real property commonly known as the Brea CorporatePlace site to private entities. The Board of Education established January 27, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Room as the date the Board will open sealed bids to purchase the property. The Board has received a direct purchase offer from Hines to purchase the fee interests in Brea CorporatePlace for $25 million.  This offer will be re-considered at a Special Meeting of the Board on February 5, 2014 at 7:30 AM in the Large Conference Room of the District Office.  The agenda is attached HERE.

BOUSD Community Survey

Kindergarten, Transitional Kindergarten, and Preschool Registration Meeting

PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT The Brea Olinda Unified School District (BOUSD) will be offering a parent information night to provide information regarding Preschool, Transitional Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and Childcare Programs for the 2014-15 school year.  Parents with children ages 2-5 are encouraged to attend.  This event will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, February 20, in the Community Rooms adjacent to the BOUSD offices on the second floor of the Civic Center.  We look forward to seeing you there.  For additional information please call (714) 990-7556. Preschool Connection 2014

ENROLLMENT FOR PRESCHOOL – BOUSD's Preschool Connection was created to provide an enriched environment for early-aged children, which benefits their intellectual, physical, emotional and social development.  Classes are designed for 3 and 4-year olds and are held Monday through Thursday from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.  Enrollment for Preschool will take place Thursday, March 6. For more information, please contact the Child Care Services Administrative Office at (714) 990-7527.  Click HERE for registration information.

Kindergarten Registration 2014

The annual pre-registration of children who will be eligible to enter kindergarten in September, 2014 will be held district-wide on Thursday, March 6, at each elementary school.  Click HERE for information on times and locations of registration, required documents. immunizations, and health screening.

ALERT -- Pertussis (Whooping Cough) is an epidemic in California.  Pertussis is a bacterial infection of the respiratory tract that is very contagious.  Due to this current epidemic, Assembly Bill 354 was signed on September 29, 2010.  This bill took affect July 1, 2011, and requires that all students entering 7th through 12th grade provide proof of immunization for Pertussis before starting the 2011-2012 school year.  This requirement can be met by receiving one dose of Tdap vaccine, the tetanus and Pertussis booster, on or after the student’s 7th birthday.  If your child has not received the Tdap vaccination, please call your doctor’s office or the Orange County Health Care Agency and make an appointment to have your child vaccinated.  Any questions please contact Alicia Bernard, RN, MSN, PHN, Brea Olinda District Nurse at 714-990-7850 ext 1231.

Fanning and Mariposa Named 2012 California Distinguished Schools

The District was notified on Thursday, March 29, by State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tom Torlakson, that Fanning and  Mariposa Elementary School were named 2012 California Distinguished Schools.  The program honors and identifies those schools that have demonstrated educational excellence for all students and progress in narrowing the achievement gap.  To be invited to apply for Distinguished School honors, schools must meet a variety of eligibility criteria including designated federal and state accountability measures.  Congratulations!
