A Good Start

Did you know that breakfast is the most important meal of your child's day?  It provides the nutrients and energy he/she needs to concentrate in school.  Research shows that kids who eat breakfast get better grades, pay more attention in class, and behave better.  Help your student begin the day on the right foot!

Additional Standards Required for School Lunches

Dear Brea Olinda School District Families,

School meals offer students milk, fruits and vegetables, proteins and grains, and they must meet strict limits on saturated fat and portion size.  Starting in School Year 2012-2013, school lunches will meet additional standards requiring:

  • Age-appropriate calorie limits
  • Larger servings of vegetables and fruits (students must take at least one serving of produce)
  • A wider variety of vegetables, including dark green and red/orange vegetables and legumes
  • Fat-free or 1% milk (flavored milk must be fat-free)
  • More whole grains
  • And less sodium

We’re always working to offer Brea Olinda students healthier and tastier choices.  School meals are a great value and a huge convenience for busy families, too! We provide easy ways to prepay for your child’s lunches with payment boxes at each elementary site and online payments through efunds for all the sites.

We look forward to welcoming your children to the cafeteria this fall.  To find out more about Brea Olinda’s healthy school meals visit our district website at www.bousd.k12.ca.us.

Thank you!
